Three Dimensions

Modern Decor

Optical illusions were invented, one presumes, to toy with our perceptions; but when they occur beneath our feet, they’re that much more discomfiting. Flooring comprised of tiles that produce the illusion of three dimensions—like those found at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome or the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas—are endlessly intriguing to both sightseers and photographers, and we’re no exception.

Some recent pavement and flooring patterns around New York City grabbed our attention for their obvious visual appeal, but we’ll admit there was another, well, dimension to it. We couldn’t help but be reminded of a 2Modern favorite: the gorgeous Squares blanket from Ferm Living.
