How-to: Refurbish a Filing Cabinet
DIY + How To
We’ve all got that one item–that one type of piece of furniture that when you see it in a store or a vintage shop you feel drawn to it. You feel compelled to take it home even though you’ve already got a million of them. You feel like you have to buy it even though it’s maybe not in the best of shape. For me, that’s filing cabinets.
Man I love them. The sound they make when you are opening and closing their drawers. The tall, skinny ones and the long, wide ones. I like that you can stick magnets on them. But if you have too many of them, or if you happen to collect too many of them that aren’t in the best of conditions, you might need a little help coming up with ideas to refurbish them. We found a fun gallery on Babble.
We like the ones that had faux painting, wallpaper and textured paper. I wouldn’t just do something to the drawers, though; for a modern look I’d prefer something done to the entire cabinet. And we think it’s absolutely such a modern idea to take filing cabinets and reuse them for a different idea, like modern planters! The question is, what would you do?
