The importance about good shape

I had a great surprise when I found the work of Paul Sandip, who made all the products that you can see on these images.  He call his self like an "Industrial Sculptor", but we know the people like him as industrial designers.  Does not matter.  The medular fact is the good design that he produces.

Intelligent shapes that minimize materials, solve problems (are functional) and express the beauty of the simplicity.  That's how I call good design.  Great job!

I really don't know if you can buy his stuff, but you can watch more in Paul Sandip's portafolio.

Alex Marshall Studios

Alexmarshall

Wonderfully-crafted new pieces by Alex Marshall Studios are now on 2Modern. Fun new Ripple Vases come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. The Ripple Lamp compliments the new vases perfectly, along with any other Alex Marshall pieces. And new Ripple Plates are a great departure from the normal tablesetting.

The floppy disk is back!

Floppy

Well, not exactly.  If  DVD is now in risk of extinction, imagine the poor floppy disk!
But, design always give a second chance to those memorable retro products.  Now they are coasters for your drinks.
The super idea is from Supermandolini.

Jar Tops

I love any design solution that keeps objects in the cyclical flow of the cradle-to-cradle model. Jorre van Ast  Jar Tops fall right into this category of cradle-to-cradle lovin'.

When is a jug not a jug? When its a jar! By screwing on plastic tops, these readily available jars are turned into vessels with a specific function. A generic jar is transformed into kitchenware, creating more practical and emotional value. The family includes a sugar pot, milk can, spice cellar, chocolate sprinkler, general storage container, oil&vinegar set, mug and a water jug..

designboom: dining in 2015

Macefnew
designboom's 'dining in 2015' competition results are in and i am just floored.
the competition rules (i should know, i entered and then faltered to find time with travel, work, etc. to actually send in my entry) were to re-think and re-design the way we [will] dine: how we go about this activity at work, at home and during travel. there were other guidelines, such as sustainability and recycled materials and just how our eating habits (how, what, where) and the act of eating in general (with family, on the move, alone) may/may not change according to how the way we live may/may not change in the future. it was an awesome competition and brain-storm exercise (giuseppe and i came up with about 10 ideas while, go figure, cooking one night).
check out the winner(s) and also some honorable mentions and shortlisted entries...i can only imagine how fantastic the entries that didn't make it on this list were as well, it seems like everyone had their creative thinking cap on for this one. i am personally looking forward to many exciting and creative dining adventures in the future (and really cool things to buy for the kitchen in a few years)!

Forest Series

Foresttable_4
A couple of years ago Dutch designer Johannes Gille became the proud owner of a very old Austrian farmers chair. He showed the chair to another very talented Dutch designer Jos Kranen, who immediately understood Johannes's love and admiration for the chair and together they decided to transform the characteristics of that particular style into a modern-time-object…the Forest Chair…they called it.  The back of the chair is made out of four  aluminum plates and they used a laser to cut out an Austrian landscape.

After the Forest chair Johannes and Jos also created a beautiful table, some cutlery and plates, the Forest Series.

I love these folklore inspired objects!  And recently Johannes and Jos made these new chairs with the landscapes from Coney Island and New York city. The chairs are available via PriveeKollektie.
