Orange22

Orange22_blog
2Modern introduces a new vendor that is both environmentally friendly and socially conscious! Each piece from Orange22's Botanist series starts with a single piece of aluminum, which is precisely cut, bent, and faced with either a high impact powder coat, such as the Botanist Flora Bench, or an epoxy coated real wood veneer, as shown here in the Botanist Natural Cocktail. For their pink items, such as the Botanist Flora Pink End Table or the Botanist Flow Pink Bench, Orange22 donates $25.00 of each sale to go to breast cancer awareness, research, and treatment.

Adding More Space

Until recently, lovers of modern architecture looking to add extra outdoor space had little available, but now there are a range of structures on the market, from gazebos to whole rooms, with clean contemporary lines.

010_web08_kithaus_08

From DWR comes Kithaus, a  9'x13' prefabricated space that can be used as a cabana, an extra living room or an office. The base model starts at $29,500 or comes complete with decks, canopies and louvers for $44,950.   Lightweight anodized aluminum means self-assembly should be a relative snap, taking a couple of people three days or so to erect. You can even buy a package of office furniture that is designed to fit right into the Kithaus, and solar panels to make it ecologically-friendly.

More information from:  kithaus@dwr.com

Modern furniture designer Richard Schultz has a simple self-assembly garden gazebo that will provide a shady retreat on a hot summer's day. Stainless steel columns and beams support vinyl mesh curtains that come in a variety of colors. You can outfit your Pavilion with seating from Richard Schultz Designs, from his iconic Petal table or the 1966 collection he designed for Knoll, to the latest Swell collection.  Prices reflect the fact that each piece is handcrafted in Pennsylvania.

If you are lucky enough to have a pool, or a killer waterview from your backyard, Honeymoon, a French company, is offering a luxury Gazebo where you and your guests can lounge in comfort. The Early Bird is the most contemporary of the four models offered; a combination of teak and stainless steel under a canvas roof, measuring approximately 15'x15'. Priced at 38,800 euros, approximately $60,000, it's certainly a luxe product. And if you need walls as well as a roof, you'll have to wait until later in 2008 when the company plans to add a Bungalow to its range.
Contact americas@honeymoon-world.com for more details.

Of course, even if you have the available funds for your cabana or outdoor office, you still have to find somewhere on your property to erect that extra room.

Be a part of art history!

Fluids325
American artist Allan Kaprow (1927-2006) was a pioneer in establishing the concepts of performance art. In the 50s and 60s he began to coordinate 'happenings' in which carefully coordinated and scripted volunteers would act out a very ordinary series of events. Kaprow's 1967 happening, FLUIDS, consisted of teams of volunteers building temporary enclosures out of ice blocks which are then left to melt. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is recreating this moment in performance art history on April 25-27 and is looking for volunteers. It's a little last minute, but today, March 6th at 3pm there is a meeting at the Brown Auditorium at LACMA to begin coordinating the project. If you live in Los Angeles, this is an amazing opportunity to take part in live art and pay homage to the innovative, modern artist Allan Kaprow. Get involved or read more  here.
