fotoflōt.

I don't know about you, but when I hang artwork or photos, the less frame the better. Usually I end up buying clip frames because they're cheap and offer a clean look -- no frame at all, which is what makes fotoflōt so appealing.

100001B01

Founded by Tom McAuliffe, Jurgen Reinold, and Jim Alef, fotoflōt creates a clean photo presentation that's free of glare (because it doesn't use glass) and easy to switch up. To hang a photo, secure the provided magnetic cups to your print, and then attach your print to the magnets on the mounted bracket. That's it! When you tire of an image, just remove the magnets from your print, fasten them to a new photo, and hang again.

This is one my favorite examples of fotoflōt in use because I too have an unsightly electrical box that is impossible to hide. A clever customer solved her problem by placing a fotoflōt-mounted photo over top of it. Brilliant!

Fusion Tables for "Fun"ctional Dining Rooms

We know two different couples whom, in the interest of lifestyle, have placed pool tables in their formal dining rooms. Great idea for casual California living, but on the few occasions they actually need the dining space their guests are, of course, left with sticks instead of forks. Voila! The new multi-functional fusion table offers recreation or dining with the flip of a cover.....make that a streamlined contemporary veneered cover that comes in five finishes. The table originates from Belgium, designed and manufactured by Aramith-Armand Billiards, a group who's been in the business since 1923. This one definitely goes into the"why didn't I think of that" category!

Designer Toast

Designer Sung Bae Chang invented a toaster that can burn pretty much anything onto your morning slice.

The Scan Toaster connects to a PC over USB and downloads everything from local weather conditions and the current time to the morning’s news headlines.

Inside the toaster is a network of toasting “modules”, each heated by a hot wire. Each module can move by 30° and, once the user selects what they want on their toast - excluding a topping, of course - the modules align themselves and burn the appropriate content onto the bread.

The appliance is a finalist in design competition run by manufacturer Electrolux  and designer Sung Bae Chang said he got the idea whilst - you guessed it - making some toast. mad_toaster

Blue Ice Transforms Cubicle Culture

New research on the impact of color was recently published in Science magazine. The key findings? Blue inspires creativity; red supports attention to detail. So, imagine my delight when this renovation gem came across my radar screen, literally, out of the blue (actually by way of one forward thinking account exec, Elizabeth Hanske, at the Morris+King Company in NY, but we'll save synchronicity for another story)! Blue Ice Cubicle
The Blue Ice cubicles are the brainchild of Judith R. King, partner and principal at Morris+King. MK is one of the leading communications firms in the public relations/marketing industry. Ms. King collaborated with avant-garde furniture designer David Alhadeff  in the redesign. The objective was to reinvent office life with one-of-a-kind design elements anchored around an innovative resin product fabricated by Panelite.  If you've ever flown JetBlue out of JFK, you might recognize the Panelite. The new blue cubes come fully stocked with dimming lamps from Lighting New York, permitting staffers to create their own atmospheres.

Did Ms. King and Mr. Alhadeff know what they were onto when selecting the brilliant blue hue for the cubes? The vision was for a serene, calming environment conducive to collaboration and clarity of thought. If the research holds, it looks like the Morris+King employees are in for a boost of creativity as well - perfect for developing creative campaign strategies for clients.

And.... ordinary, bland cubes across corporate America are sure to thank them for their groundbreaking use of color!
