Louis Poulsen Introduces CIRQUE Pendant Lamps
Furniture & Lighting
Danish lighting brand Louis Poulsen has launched a new suite of modern pendant lamps in collaboration with Swedish designer and graphic artist Clara von Zweigbergk. The lamps, named CIRQUE, were introduced at the 2016 Stockholm Furniture Fair, and are distinct for their horizontal bands of color, and shapes that resemble those of spinning tops—inspired, says von Zweigbergk, by a trip to Copenhagen’s famous Tivoli amusement park. “I don’t mind at all if—sitting in their kitchens—people look up and start thinking hot-air balloons and carousels,” she muses, of the trio of lamps, which are meant to capture the turns and spins that characterize theme parks, with their “carousels, candy floss makers and wheels of fortune.”
Louis Poulsen’s new CIRQUE pendant lamps, designed by Clara von Zweigbergk, mark a departure from the company’s famous monochromatic and two-toned pendant lamps. Featuring four distinct bands of color on their rounded forms, the aluminum pendants are being offered in three sizes and three different color combinations—making them suited equally to being suspended alone or in groupings. What remains characteristic of the Danish brand’s modern lighting designs is CIRQUE’s quality of light, a downward trajectory of diffused illumination ideal for areas where nuanced lighting is essential.
Louis Poulsen describes its new CIRQUE collection of pendant lamps as ‘robust,’ their substantial forms and vivid colors designed for most any space, private or public, from kitchens and children’s bedrooms, to bars and restaurants. The clean, uninterrupted construction of CIRQUE lighting fixtures make them easy to clean, while their graphic patterning and colorways become highly decorative features even when not illuminated. When lit, however, the lamps’ light quality, reflected off their matte white interiors, remains, in true Louis Poulsen fashion, devoid of glare and beautifully atmospheric.
