San Francisco-based startup, Fellow, just scored a big win at NY NOW, the home, lifestyle, and gift winter trade show, taking home the event’s top prize—Best in Market—for its uber stylish Stagg Pour-Over Kettle. That’s quite an honor for a kettle, but the justification lies in Stagg’s trifecta of highly desirable and immaculately engineered factors, each of which plays a part in comprising its shiny good looks: its spout, its handle, and its built in thermometer. Fellow, which traces its inception to a Kickstarter campaign launched by three design-savvy coffee obsessives, has been in business for less than a year, and has released the Stagg Kettle on the heels of its initial product offering, Duo, a dual-chamber French press coffee maker.

PRECISION POUR SPOUT: “A slow and steady pour wins the race,” say the experts at Fellow, and coffee aficionados will understand exactly what they mean. Apparently, there’s something called ‘optimal pour-over flow rate,’ key to the perfect hand made cup of coffee, and it’s dictated by two factors that extract flavor from coffee grinds: the surface area over which the grids are distributed; and the interaction time between grinds and water. To that end, the Stagg Kettle has been exactingly designed to ensure that achieving this ideal pour-over flow rate is facilitated by the kettle’s physical form—vis-à-vis an elegant gooseneck spout and a weighted handle that makes the pouring motion easier.

Stagg Pour-Over Kettle Thermometer

An integrated analog thermometer on the lid of the Stagg Pour-Over Kettle signals when the ideal coffee brewing temperature has been reached.

BREW-RANGE THERMOMETER: The Stagg Kettle’s built-in analog thermometer, integrated into its lid, tracks the water’s temperature as it boils, displaying the optimal brew temperature when it’s been reached—reported to be between 195 and 205 degrees fahrenheit—ensuring the birth of a heavenly hand-brewed cup of coffee.

Stagg Pour-Over Kettle Matte Black

The Stagg Pour-Over Kettle is available in matte black or polished stainless steel.

High grade stainless steel in a choice of handsome matte black and polished steel highlights Stagg’s refined, sculptural beauty, which holds a liter of water, and is compatible with gas, electric or induction stove tops. Best of all, the Stagg Pour-Over Kettle has been designed to impress at the relatively modest price of $69.
