Alessi Releases 30th Anniversary Edition of Michael Graves Tea Kettle
Modern Decor
Italian design house Alessi has released a new version of its famous 9093 Kettle, thanks to the Post-Modern architect Michael Graves—the original 9093’s designer, who completed the revamped version just before his death earlier this year. Arguably the most famous modern tea kettle in the world, the 9093 kettle turns 30 this year, and in commemorating the occasion, Alessi asked Graves to redo the kettle’s most whimsical feature—it’s bird-shaped whistle.
Somewhat mystifyingly, the architect swapped out the kettle’s modest little red bird for a showier, fanciful dragon. “I imagined a new evolution in the history of our kettle – one where our little bird might transform into a superhero, a reptilian creature that is at once prehistoric, mythological, and futuristic,” said Graves, of his choice in species. Alessi’s new 9093 Kettle anniversary edition will feature three dragon finishes: green, copper, and brass.Via Dezeen
