A New Visual Identity for Carl Hansen & Søn
Art & Design
Carl Hansen & Søn, the Danish manufacturer of exalted Mid-Century furniture designs by Hans J. Wegner, has a adopted a new visual identity to mark the 100th birthday of Wegner’s birth, and, fittingly, it leads back to Wegner himself. Turns out Wegner designed the company’s logo back in 1950, a mark that was used through the 1980s, before being replaced by a more generic mark.
In announcing the new identity last week, the company called the red and white typographical emblem “timeless,” and explained that “Wegner’s anniversary presents an ideal opportunity to reintroduce his original logo, reinforcing the strong ties which have connected Wegner with Carl Hansen & Søn over the decades.”
