Wallpaper for (Faux?) Bibliophiles

Architecture & Interiors

We’re not quite sure which to be more impressed by: the brilliant optical illusion created by the faux Bookshelves wallpaper by Deborah Bowness, or the stairwell in this apartment (decorated by French designer Isabelle Juy) which facilitates the illusion so stunningly. A Yorkshire-based artist and designer, Bowness has made the art of Trompe-l’oeil her stock and trade, creating a series of wallpaper optics with everything from worn books to bric-a-brac to hanging clothes as subject matter. But we doubt even Bowness could have envisioned her fine work in a context this spectacular.
