An Arts Center Defined by Color and Geometry

Categories: Architecture + Interiors

Architectural photographer João Morgado, whose work has been previously featured on this site, sent us some images of recent work, including these of the Casa das Artes (House of the Arts) in Miranda do Corvo, Portugal.

Designed by the Lisbon-based architectural practice Future Architecture Thinking, Casa das Artes is a contemporary arts center and cultural meeting place set amidst the town’s Lousã Mountains—which helped inspire the sloping, dynamic volumes that comprise the building’s shape.

But it’s the color, of course, that remains its most striking feature: an endless expanse of vibrant red, standing in stark contrast to the browns and greens of both its urban and natural context, ensuring its stature as the “iconic landmark” its architects intended.

  1. I love red architecture… the way it sits against the blue sky is always so lyrical. This looks like an amazing space for the arts.

  2. Nice color! What an eye candy amidst the typical architecture we see everyday.
