A Graphic Textile Pattern, Woven in Ink

Modern Decor

“With this pattern i wanted to maintain a hand drawn feeling…a woven illusion,” says Finnish designer Minttu Somervuori, of her arresting, ink-drawn Palmikko fabric illustration, on display at the Habitare convention center during this year’s Helsinki Design Week. Somervuori—part of the Finnish collective Protoshop, which provides young designers with the opportunity to exhibit prototypes—has studied both furniture and textile design, and maintains an interest in both time-honored crafts and contemporary applications. “In my design work I pick features from traditional handicraft techniques and combine them with a modern technique – this forms my own hand print.” A wholly original hand print that, we admit, caught our eyes immediately.
