Yes, well, who wouldn’t want to look down at pencil shavings and find rainbows? British-born, Tokyo-based designer Duncan Shotton has conceived of this fanciful notion with the invention of Rainbow Pencils, currently seeking funding via Kickstarter. “I was looking at ways in which, without interfering with its basic function, I could improve such a standardized, accepted product to make people happier when they use it,” he says about the 6-color recycled paper pencils. And, it’s clear, he’s hit a nerve with rainbow seekers: a mere 6 days into Rainbow Pencils’ funding period, Kickstarter has yielded more than twice the project’s funding goal.
