For Finland’s Habitek, Small is Beautiful

Furniture & Lighting

The small Finnish furniture company Habitek was one of the many we became acquainted with recently on our trip to Helsinki for Design Week. In business since 2000, Habitek prides itself on a modest inventory of “beautiful, highly-functional and versatile basic furniture pieces that invite their users to find inspired applications at home and work.”

The company’s signature pieces remain Morris tables, a series of asymmetrically-shaped coffee and dining tables designed by Finnish architect Kirsi Gullichsen in 2005. Gullichsen reportedly found inspiration for the oak-and-laminate series of five seemingly random shapes in the movements of her dachshund, Morris. Word is that Morris approves of them, too.
