The art director Bob Newman, whose resume includes New York Magazine, Real Simple, and Fortune, and whose Newmanology website is a must for print design enthusiasts, suffered a debilitating injury this past spring. The fallout from this near-fatal event has been, among other things, a crushing financial toll on Newman and his family.
Magazine industry friends have found a fitting way of leveraging crowd-sourcing as a tool in mitigating expenses incurred by Newman’s lengthy rehabilitation: the publication of a single-issue magazine, sale profits of which will go entirely to Newman and his family.
My Favo(u)rite Magazine is a journey through past and present magazines—expressed in words and pictures—favored by major players in the magazine world, including Richard Turley of Bloomberg Businessweek and Marissa Bourke of Harper’s Bazaar. But mostly, it’s a labour of heart: an ode to the power of print—and to Bob Newman’s worthy contribution to the medium.
