The British painter Patrick Caulfield is currently being feted with a retrospective at Britain’s Tate Gallery, and don’t we wish we were in London right now. Caulfied, who died in 2005, studied graphic design, and was an admirer of Le Corbusier—and it shows. Not surprisingly, we find his most compelling compositions, distinguished by flat expanses of vibrant color, to be interior vignettes—featuring graphic still life compositions, repeat patterns and instantly recognizable furniture icons.
