Portugal’s Umbrella Art

Art & Design

Oh to be in Águeda, Portugal! For the second July in a row, an installation comprised of hundreds of colorful umbrellas is gracing the skies above its shopping district, and we’re nothing if not jealous. Local production company SextaFeira Produções conceived of and installed the beguiling Umbrella Sky project last year, as part of the Agitagueda Art Festival, and we’re guessing that the rapturous response from across the globe prompted a reprise—as well it should. This magical, surreal canopy of color would lift the spirits of any city—be it eternally sunny Águeda or perpetually rainy London.
