An Icing-Cool Pastry Shop

Architecture & Interiors

Lisbon architectural photographer Joao Morgado sent over some photos of his latest project, a pastry shop interior in Gondomar, Portugal, designed by Paulo Merlini Arquitectura. In conceiving of the space less as a quick stop and more as a place in which to linger, the architects created three separate seating areas with varying degrees of intimacy, and a soothing color palette consisting of lustrous white and blonde wood. The most distinctive architectural feature is the undulating, light-infused drop ceiling, comprised of parallel wooden slats that dip down in some sections—a reference to melted icing.
