Designer and woodworker Ryden Rizzo, a Design and Technology graduate of New York’s Parsons School for Design, expected to ply his trade with a computer. Instead, from his New York studio, Allied Maker, Rizzo uses his obviously advanced skills in woodworking to create one-of-a-kind limited edition home products, including lighting and kitchen accoutrements. We especially like his elegant hand-turned Vessel lamp series, richly realized in gorgeous woods—solid teak, white oak, American black walnut—and bearing the utilitarian grace and impeccable craftsmanship found in the best examples of traditional Danish woodworks. Rizzo’s passion for the exacting, tactile experience of working with wood was ignited almost by accident—and, as admirers of hand crafted design, we don’t mind in the least calling it a very happy accident.
