A Zero Waste “Piqnique”

Modern Decor

piqnique_02Earlier this year, New York City’s Parsons The New School for Design and Italian furniture brand Poltrona Frau collaborated on Wasteless, a zero-waste design initiative. A group of Parsons design students was tasked with creating products with scraps of leftover leather from Poltrona Frau’s factory in Tolentino, Italy. The first place winner was Jenny Hsu’s Piqnique, a woven leather cutlery holder that rolls out into a place mat. Pretty inventive waste management, don’t you think?piqnique_cutlery_kit_jenny_hsu-thumb-525xauto-55820Images: Core 77

You know, I saw this at Core 77 and passed it by, somehow the presentation of it on this site really caught my eye and I’m really loving the idea. Maybe its just that its now warmer “picnic weather” but either way this design is so simple yet useful and beautiful. I hope it does really well.

We absolutely agree–it’s practical and smart, and looks nothing like ‘waste’ to us ;)
