Art & Design

This series of Pop Art-inspired editorial illustrations in the latest issue of New York Magazine has us enthralled. For the magazine’s annual Best of New York edition, the photographer Bobby Doherty has illustrated its six sections, each devoted to a specific city feature, with photos of objects in repeat pattern arrangements that bring to mind those 60’s icons, Warhol and Thiebaud.

Doherty has cleverly chosen high-heeled pumps for the Shopping section, cleaning sponges to illustrate Home & Help, and glasses of alarmingly-colored drinks that practically shout Fun—and in doing so, has created a photo series that evocatively and alluringly captures the gaiety that, at least partly, defines New York.
