How could we not be impressed by the fool-the-eye construction of these bags by the Taiwanese company Jump From Paper, founded by the young designers Chay Su and Rika Lin? It’s one thing to want to turn a cartoonish drawing into a three-dimensional object, but another altogether to have it translated so convincingly.
But these handbags and satchels, with their comic book black outlines and thoughtfully arranged blocks of flat color—together with superb craftsmanship—are not just great fun, but an undoubtedly ingenious bit of fashion trickery. Can a new line, complete with Lichtenstein-like Ben-Day dots, be far behind? We hope not!
