The past and future collide in this remarkably beautiful fool-the-eye scissors, commissioned by Wallpaper magazine a few years ago for its annual issue featuring hand made products. One half of the scissors was handcrafted by Ernest Wright & Son, UK scissor makers for over a century. The other half, a collaboration between the design studio Dentsu London and New Zealand product designer Jamie McLellan, is a 3-D carbon print made with a rapid prototyping machine. Both halves are held together by hardware bearing the distinctive Wallpaper asterisk.

It’s always a pleasure to happen upon places that still devote themselves to craftsmanship and limited quantities. Bringing together these seemingly opposed production styles is truly inspiring.
