Window Dressing

Architecture & Interiors

For a project that is “part an ode to architecture and part a self-challenge to never stop looking up,” the New York graphic designer Jose Guizar has taken it upon himself to create a suite of weekly illustrations featuring The Windows of New York. Thus far, the collection is a portrait of an older, more modest New York, and only time will tell if the flashier expanses of glass that define the city’s newer apartment buildings will make their way into Guizar’s observations. No matter, I predict that these smart little illustrations will eventually be available in print form.

My favorite illustration is the basement window with the prison-like bars and AC unit. It just conjures up so many feelings and ideas about living in small, confined spaces, modernist anxiety and big cities like New York. Great post!
