Sleeping Around, the Traveling Pop-Up Hotel
Architecture & Interiors
Shipping containers have become a modern, sustainable design concept, and “pop-up” retailers are all the rage. Combine them, and what do you get? Sleeping Around, a unique pop-up, shipping container hotel. Here, the term “pop-up” goes beyond the notion of merely making an unexpected appearance. It denotes exclusivity, flexibility and innovation: a unique experience with a strong element of surprise. Already successful in the retail sector, the concept has never been extensively applied to hotels. Until now.
The Sleeping Around project has transformed shipping containers into readymade, compact, yet luxurious hotel rooms that come equipped with all the conveniences one expects from a modern hotel room—box-spring bed, rain shower, iPod docking station, air conditioning—and does it within the confines of 20 square feet.
An ideal mix of adventure and comfort, the first Sleeping Around pop-up is currently in Antwerp, Belgium, but will move to another destination determined by online voting. And a private commission will allow a Sleeping Around airdrop anywhere you want. Now that would be a surprise Valentine’s Day getaway!
