Cheyenne Weaver’s Agar Sample Series. Definition of Agar: “(Science: cell culture, chemical, microbiology) this gelatinous material, an extract from red algae (mainly Gelidium and Gracilaria species), is most frequently used as a culture medium, especially for bacteria. It is also used as a thickener in foods, but humans cannot digest it.”
Aren’t these watercolors by Austin-based Cheyenne Weaver amazing? They are incredibly simple — but they are amazingly rich. So full of depth. Using visible, wide brush strokes and dramatic, deep, rich colors, she creates organic shapes. Almost like creatures but not quite. The backgrounds are soft, subtle with slight floating shapes. Overall these pieces are hopeful, serious, light and lovely.
