Chair Porn: Michael Yates Design
Modern Decor
Yes it’s time to post another beautiful something that Michael Yates, the Austin-based woodworker and craftsman, has made. Can you blame us for what is quite obviously a bit of a design obsession with this particular designer? I mean, his work is pretty killer. A mix of modern with a little bit of Japanese-inspiration tangled in, this latest series of chairs doesn’t have a name yet (do you have an idea for it?) but they don’t really have to when they look like this, now do they?
Keeping with his signature sleek look that we’ve seen before (like in his Vave Table, Kyoto Dresser or in the shots in his interview post) these chairs share wonderfully subtle angle details at the top and just under the leg rails. Quite beautiful, don’t you think? Need a bonus? Bench!
More on his website and Facebook page.
What do you think about these chairs and this bench?!

I appreciate the design details of the chair and like the contrast between the woven seat and wood (both the colour and texture). Overall, the chairs look fine but I am not in love with them.

Wow…so another woodworker took the time to post a “meh” comment of another woodworker’s work. Stay klassy, Wong.
Lovely work, Mr Yates.
