We weren’t surprised in the slightest when three-woman strong Egg Collective won the ICFF new designer award of 2012; we kept finding reasons to pass by their booth we loved their designs so much. A heady mix of vintage-inspired modern pieces that were exquisitely made, we enjoyed how they mixed trendy motifs — geometry, smoked glass — with their own aesthetics to create a pretty smashing first line. We suggest you keep your eyes on these designers; if they’re this good their first go-round, they’ll no doubt be blowing us away with any new designs in the future.
Egg Collective is made up of the lovely, talented and witty Crystal Ellis, Stephanie Beamer and Hillary Petrie. From their about page: “We are a Brooklyn-based design company committed to building American-made furniture that merges heirloom-quality craftsmanship and contemporary design. Our furniture and objects are handcrafted by members of the collective; anything we cannot make ourselves we source out to local and small-scale manufacturers. We design enduring objects. We hope the people who invest in our furniture will pass it on to their children with stories of lives lived around it.”
