We think modern design in its best light is when it can take something old, respect it, and somehow add something new and different seamlessly, beautifully and without taking over the older part of the structure. This home by studio octopi is in London, England and is just so lovely. We love that the front and bulk of the house is kept with its original character, and then added on is this lovely almost-all glass box room that allows lots of light and style in.
“A Grade 2 listed building in Islington that was divided up into flats in the 1970’s has been restored and reinstated as a family home. The original house has been refurbished throughout with finishes that are light in both tone and texture and new units and insertions are respectful to the restored fabric and period details of the building. The newly reinstated staircase occupies the same shaft of space as the original at the rear of the house.”
If you had all the money in the world and a big enough back yard, would you incorporate this sort of design on your house? We’re seriously curious!
