Interiors: Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy

Categories: Architecture + Interiors

Absolutely lurving the look of Scandinavian meets modern meets someone’s attic meets a cabin in a really urban city. This is the Lloyd Hotel and Cultural Embassy by MVRDV, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We definitely fell in love with that top photo first; we love a lot of white, but for us, we need a little nature and drama, too, so appreciate when white meets strong, heavy and heady wood elements, like this lovely A-frame ceiling with all the trusses and beams.

“Built in the 1920s as a hotel for emigrants, then a long-time prison, and now in a third transition, the Lloyd Hotel is located in the recently redeveloped eastern harbor area of Amsterdam. Whilst the meaning of the word “guest” has changed several times, the aim is now to offer comfort for travelers and provide a public dining room for guests and the neighbors in the adjacent new housing area.”

Would you want to stay in this hotel or live in it? You have to pick one.
