Oooh I’m enjoying so much the landscape artwork of Rachel Sitkin. It seems this artist used to work primarily in figurative subject matter (people) but with this series “Surface Mining” moved on to landscape work. We love the curvy lines and soft color palettes. This is gonna sound weird but they remind us of ancient Mayan art? We’re not sure why. Regardless, Rachel explains this series of her work best:
“This series marked a departure in my work from primarily figurative to primarily landscape. While still exploring the theme of the figure in the landscape, I decided to remove the image of the figure in favor of the mark of the figure. These mines depict the outcome of our presence in the landscape, the simultaneous beauty and destruction that we are capable of.” More here.
