Sarah Thirlwell :: Vases & Vessels

Art & Design

I discovered Sarah Thirlwell’s incredible vases through Pinterest (Are you on there yet??  Holy of holies, get on that.) and lost all sense of time and space for a few moments… until I clicked through to her portfolio, wherein an entire collection of hand-turned vases exploded onto my monitor accompanied by an angelic choir and I wept tears of pure joy.

Okay, that didn’t really happen, but you’ve got to admit that these plywood and plastic vessels are beyond cool.  The colorful stripes are made from an array of recycled and reclaimed plastics, including yogurt cups, vending machine bowls, and scrap acrylic.  Pretty neat, right?  If you’re as enamored by these beauties as I am, you’ll be happy to know that Sarah has an online shop where you can purchase your favorite piece directly from the artist.  Hooray!

I love Pinterest and it definitely is addictive! :) I love these vases, the gorgeous colors and the fact they are hand turned makes them even more delightful. Thanks for the design inspiration ideas!

So not only do these vases look amazing, they follow the ‘green philosophy’ of recycling! That’s a combo you seldom see in the area of modern design. My fav are the long semi-transparent vases in your first picture. It would look great against a window.
