Heartwood Designs is Grant McGavin out of Portland, Oregon. He works during the day at Goby Walnut Products milling hardwood lumber, and on the nights and weekends he works on his designs, which he makes out of local and environmentally friendly hardwoods, most especially Oregon Black Walnut.
We love all the local and environmental aspects to these modern designs that have a strong reverence for traditional styles, but we obviously really like his aesthetics, too. His designs have a strong George Nakashima feel to them; like rough hewn edges, thin spindles and imposing shapes. These are definitely pieces meant to evoke a strong connection with the material they’re made out of and will definitely bring a lot of nature to your space. More here.
