Tribal and exotic patterns are all the rage, and we’ve certainly spotted ikat patterns showing up in all sorts of home items from rugs, to wallpaper, to tiles, to fabric to furniture and more. While there’s no end, it seems, to the ikat patterns you can purchase for your home, we’ve yet to see a DIY project where you can create your own ikat pattern. Well until we noticed this one, of course. Spotted on Design*Sponge, this project involved painting a DIY ikat pattern on a piece of furniture to revamp and revitalize it. Though it came out a little cutesier than we would normally advertise for a modern design project, we think it’s got potential. By incorporating a DIY ikat pattern, why, you could choose any color you wanted. You could have control over the size and impact of the pattern. And of course, you could finally have an ikat pattern on a really unexpected surface in your space to incorporate the trend in a new and fresh way. And this doesn’t look too hard at all to do! Probably an afternoon or weekend project. Instructions at Design*Sponge.
