Roughing it outside of Mexico City for a day or two? Not dissimilar in concept to the Japanese Capsule hotel in Tokyo, a Tubohotel is located in the Village of Tepoztlan, Morelos about 45 minutes south of Mexico City on the other side of the mountain range. I suspect the target market is here is much more the backpacking type vs. the business man in the city. The Tubohotel consists of large concrete circular tube sections stacked pyramid style with ladders to reach the top from the ground.
They are not large but just big enough to house a queen sized bed in the middle, wall to wall, which leaves room for storage underneath. Each is out fitted with a desk light, fan, as well as towel racks, sheets, pillows and comfortable blankets. A curtain is strung across the front window for semi privacy and to dim the morning light. Bathroom houses have skin-scalding hot water, private showers and commodes (that is French for toilet). Each tube can accommodate 2 comfortably for $500 pesos, approximately $45 US dollars, all year round. Beats pitching a tent in my book. Backpack not included.
Have an infinitely modern day!
