Sometimes modern art is that which is so new and fresh that it’s never been seen before, shocking the senses and delighting the soul. Other times modern art is art that has a familiar foundation — where an artist takes something as inspiration and builds upon it, sometimes simply and sometimes stunningly. Maurizio Anzeri is doing both. Taking old photographs and new, he embroiders and adds thread in complicated and delicate geometric patterns. He doesn’t just embroider over the pictures; he embroiders with the pictures, making the subject matter both the background and the center stage. We love the colors and just the fun of it all. As seen in a Yatzer article.
