Nouveau Lounge by Kate McCreary

Categories: ICFF 2011, Modern Decor + Objects

Kate McCreary’s Nouveau lounge has been popping up in the design blogs recently, and it’s with good reason: that’s one sexy pile of plush style you designed there, Kate. But, it’d be irresponsible of us if we didn’t at least wonder if it was comfortable. Thankfully, the Nouveau’s sensuous curves caught the eye of Michael who was ICFF this year — he got to try it out and report back to us!

We may love modern furniture, but we definitely treasure comfort. That’s why we enlisted the help of 2Modern friend and furniture maker Michael Yates. His background and expertise made him the perfect guy to rate chairs based on firmness, quality, comfort and ergonomics. This isn’t exactly science, but we’ll be bringing you a series of posts to tackle the very important question of looks versus comfort!

In Michael’s words: “Feels pretty good, but the design is SO ergonomic you can’t move really. Ironic?”

Our ratings system, which we admit is based a lot on personal preference, gave the Nouveau Lounge 2 stars for firmness (meaning it’s a lounge you can really sink into, but not too deep), 3 stars for touch (maybe not as soft as a baby bunny, but still pleasant to touch), 4 stars for construction (it will not feel like you are going to break this) and 4 stars for ergonomics (it is a lounge, for goodness sakes). Read more about it here.

You’ll have to stay tuned to the blog to see what other new designs he rates for comfort; which chair will be the most comfortable?! What do you think about the Kate McCreary’s Nouveau Lounge? Does it look as comfy as it does attractive? Do you think you would enjoy sitting in it? Let us know!

  1. This lounge sounds good. It seems to give good comfort and relax. I will definitely look forward to it and buy it in the future. Really a creative lounge by kate. love it…..!!!!

  2. It looks nice but i have my doubts on the “comfy” side as i have a chair @ home that looks very similar and it rarely gets used – guests always want to try it out but never stay around for long (on the chair). Nice design though, i’d still like one ;)

  3. I have Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and have a hard time finding a comfortable chair. I’ve personally “lounged” in Kate’s chair and it’s not only ergonomic but VERY comfortable! The fabric is nice and comfy, too.
