Texas Biennial 2011

Art & Design

Austin’s got great art. As a resident, I can attest to that. I pretty much get blown out of the water everyday by this city’s amazing talent. Want to know a not-so-secret secret, though? Austin’s hardly the only city in Texas producing mind-blowing artists. How do we know? The proof is in the wildly awesome Texas Biennal, a survey of the best of the best of contemporary art in Texas.

Put on by the incredibly talented, hardworking and inspiring folks behind the non-profit organization Big Medium (who also organize the amazing E.A.S.T. tour each year) and curated by a New York art historian and art lawyer, this year is going to be absolutely amazing. Launching tomorrow April 9th and going until May 14th, you’ll have the opportunity to experience art in nine separate, yet connected, gallery spaces in three different cities (Austin, Houston and San Antonio).

Please visit the Big Medium and Texas Biennial websites for more information, including where the venues are and who all the amazing artists are. And if you’re wondering when the big party is…head to the roof deck at the Arthouse at the Jones Center on Saturday, April 16, 2011, 7-10pm for art, performances and music.
