Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests: Kinetic Sculptures

Was just emailed this video. SO AMAZING. Theo Jansen is a kinetic sculptor–meaning he creates sculptures that move and interact with the world around them, in this case, with wind. But these aren’t just stationary sculptures that look pretty, Theo creates “creatures” that seemingly have a mind of their own–it’s like they are alive. Watch this video:

  1. These are so beautiful – thanks for posting! We kept hoping he would put a name to the sculptures. And we can’t help but envision strapping a saddle to the back of one and riding it down the beach. Maybe that’ll be the next evolution?
