Featured Artist: Chuck Voelter

Art & Design

Our first experience with viewing modern artist Chuck Voelter’s work was in a delicious sushi joint in downtown Austin, a place with some of the tastiest and good-looking sushi and fish you’ve ever seen. The fact that I barely even looked at my food—my eyes too busy glancing up at Chuck’s work—should be evidence of just how arresting his work is.

Definitely an abstract artist, Chuck’s large scale paintings feature amorphous shapes that interact energetically on the canvas, creating movement and excitement in each composition.

Though it’s hard to tell on his website, many of his paintings feature oil paint and polyurethane, which creates a heady mix of matte and glossy textures that confuse and delight the eyes. Also: he’s basically a modern color expert. See his work here. And like him on Facebook here.

My husband and I moved to Austin about a year and a half ago. While we were visiting here looking for places to live, we stopped in for some sushi…and fell in love with Chuck’s art! Soon after we had the boxes moved in we bought one that we couldn’t get out of our minds!! Love them all!
