Featured Design Element: Suspended Stairs

Architecture & Interiors

Does it seem like we have an obsession with stairs? We’ve already posted about painted ones. And we admit, we certainly think about them a lot. But it’s more like a preoccupation than an obsession (wait—is there a difference?).

We think stairs are important not just for the vertical circulation they so obviously provide, but because of the not-so-obvious symbolism they represent in the home. When you walk up stairs, you are going somewhere, and in an upwards direction, you know?

Suspended stairs are definitely something you almost exclusively see in modern homes. They’re not only physics-defying, they might even feel death-defying to use. We like design elements that involve guts to use.

I’ve always loved floating airy suspended stairs. But now as a new mom, I think…where and how would I secure the baby gate? :)
