Along These Lines Wall Hanging by Studio Lawrence

Now in its 60th year, GOOD DESIGN remains the oldest and most recognized program for design excellence worldwide, associated with early modernism’s most formable designers including Eero Saarinen, and Charles and Ray Eames. The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies received a record number of entries for the Award this year from over 48 countries. The Museum proudly announced the winners this week, and among them Studio Lawrence’s wall hanging Along These Lines, building on the piece’s previous accolades of the Europe 40 Under 40 Award and Interior Design Best Of Year Awards.

Along These Lines was created when the London Design Museum approached Studio Lawrence to develop a semi-permanent wall hanging that reduced echo within their conference room.

Comprising a system of vertical felt lanes suspended on a steel rail, Along These Lines creates beautiful wall coverings of any size that add soft volume to any space. The 2mm thick felt is sourced from Germany‘s leading supplier, reinforcing Studio Lawrence‘s belief in using only the highest quality European materials and manufacturing. Available in nine colours, the lanes are cut in widths of the first five values of the Fibonacci sequence and run parallel. The lanes can be layered up to create texture and the easy-to-manage hanging system means the lanes can be rearranged, creating a constantly changing composition.

Using a double-sided rail, Along These Lines can also become a soft partition wall to divide living spaces within the home, to separate workplaces or to enclose a meeting-room table.

Along These Lines is a playful and dynamic piece, designed to improve both aesthetics and acoustics. In June 2011 Along These Lines will be exhibited at the GOOD DESIGN SHOW, The Chicago Athenaeum.
