Food/Design: La Condesa
Architecture & Interiors
Austin, Texas is at no loss for good Mexican food. With as many varieties and genres you can think of (interior, tex-mex, breakfast…) the hardest thing about living in Austin sometimes is having decide which awesome Mexican joint you’re going to visit.
But sometimes you are craving not just tasty tacos, but also a stylish interior that fits your hip aesthetic needs. That’s where La Condesa comes in. Downtown Austin got a huge boost when this hip restaurant opened up in the 2nd Street District. Boasting a design background of the famed architect Michael Hsu and the fabulous interior designer Joel Mozersky, the interior is bold, colorful, modern, exciting and oh so gorgeous.
Large-scale art assaults the senses, and natural materials bring in warmth and comfort. Cool light fixtures set just the right mood, and fun accessories remind one they are in the fun-loving and laid back capital of Texas. And, unlike the other restaurants I’ve written about so far, I can personally attest to the deliciousness of not just the interiors, but the food, as well.
