Modern Decor

A hot trend in the fashion industry is the draping of fabric. This is an image from the Donna Karen Pre-fall 2010 Collection (found on Style.com).  I love to see the contrast of shadows and the soft silhouette that the fabric creates.

This light fixture by Fambuena, is part of the "Dress" collection. Hand wrapped silk ribbon creates soft delicate forms.  The layers of the ribbon remind me of the draping of fabric on the model above. The lamp even has a runway appearance to it. Visit 2modern, Fambuena, for more details.

The IKI Suspension Lamp by Arturo Alvarez resembles fabric, but is actually hand sculpted stainless steel.  You can learn more about this great fixture from Illuminations, Inc. in Washington, D.C.

Another great fashion find is intricate forms of woven fabric.  This style is from the Carolina Herrera Spring 2010 Collection (found on Style.com)

This light fixture, by Yamagiwa titled "Mayuhana"  uses fine threads woven to create soft diffused layers.

2010 is just a few days away, and although I have already previewed some of the runway fashions for the New Year, I am excited to see how materials and applications in fashion are also going to be dicovered in lighting design. Happy New Year!
