bee-hive for UN memorial site

Categories: Architecture + Interiors

A competition seeking designs for a UN memorial was recently held in city of chungju in south korea. UK based architectural firm Acme's design won third place.
The structure is built from individual hexagonal cells on the exterior as well as throughout the interior that come together to form a cube. The design draws inspiration from the core functions and operations of UN where different countries come together to create one entity but without losing their individual identities.

The design includs an assembly hall seating 1500, two conference rooms, a theater and an exhibition space. The open roof allows natural light through the interiors. An open staircase winds up the exterior of the building and leads all the way up to the roof, where a public garden and green roof await.
Is it just me or does the structure resemble a bee-hive?

  1. I agree. I think that having a well designed and innovative space can convey quite a new face to the world. In this case, it says that the UN isn’t afraid of change or stuck in the past. I think that it is a great step in the right direction.

  2. i want beehive concept on highrise
