The Writing on the Wall
If you can't quite force your modernist sensibilities to embrace neo-Victorian wallpaper or quasi-rustic chalkboard paint, there is a third option that doesn't involve blank, stark walls (not that there's anything wrong with that!) The folk over at B&N Industries have created an inspired suite of wall paneling that will make you think twice about laminate.
The Iconic Panels come in an impressive range of colours and finishes, but it's difficult to deny the appeal of the matte white formed laminate. The range of designs is equally impressive, and more technical-minded readers will be pleased to know that the wood core is also available in LEED-qualified, fire-rated and water-resistant selections.
If you're feeling a little daring, there are a number of more elaborate designs, from paisley to Fleur de Lis and French-inspired flourishes that still manage to look decidedly modern.
If you're feeling really brave, why not break out of the matte white mould and jump over to the dark side, with black matte and gloss finishes that are bound to turn heads.
If mid-century modern is more your style, there's also a fantastic eco-friendly range of Reclaimed Wood Iconic Panels that are available in all but one of the eye-catching designs. Both the core and veneer are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and the veneer is finished with a low V.O.C. varnish, so not only do you score LEED brownie points, but you can breathe easy too.

Good question Michelle! There don't seem to be any Australian suppliers/stockists on the B&N Industries website, but I've contacted their sales department to double check and I'll let you know!

Michelle - B&N do not have a supplier in Australia - all panels are shipped directly from the US and can be shipped internationally. Price lists are available on their website, although you may have to contact their sales department directly for shipping prices.
