Master living: Part One, Light Up the Master Bedroom
There is a power struggle going on in the bedroom that is far more powerful than sex or the TV remote. The master bedroom often surrenders simply to function, rather than exploring its untapped potential for fashion and fantasy. This is because a couple may not have realized that a master bedroom is a like a secret chamber, which can deliver the ultimate in luxury: privacy, relaxation, and a stronger, more fulfilling relationship. A little help with lighting, color, and fabrics, goes a long way. A master bedroom can become an oasis in the desert that replenishes you with inner peace and exciting liaisons. When it comes to transforming a master bedroom into a sanctuary, 3 things make the difference: lighting, color and tactile fabrics.

When it comes to functional lights, keep them functional:
If it is a reading light, does it light your book or the entire bed? If it’s a dressing light, is it near a mirror, or do you have to walk somewhere else to see yourself? Can you sit and read in a corner chair as well as put your socks on? Choose your activity spots and light them up with spotlights!

Overall lighting (ceiling, table lamps) are for ambiance. Don’t make them functional, make them beautiful. Use dimmers to control light output (if you dim a bulb by 10% you double the life of the light bulb), or change light bulbs to soft pink colors. Candlelight is great as long as you don’t fall asleep with candles burning. If there is any chance of you falling asleep, buy battery operated ones. With natural light, go to town with beautiful window shades that not only establish a sense of privacy, but direct and diffuse incoming light to fit the mood. The point is, light makes mood happen, so choose your mood wisely.
