A Sofa from the Jet Set Age

Lost City Arts in New York is an excellent source for original mid-century designs, reproductions, and new designs reminiscent of the style. This is one of their custom productions, the Jet Set sofa.

Jetset

This lovely design has been in my inspiration file for years and at $3,800, that is probably as close as I will ever get to possession.

The Jet Set is very similar to mid-century inspired designs seen at other retail establishments, complete with the desired tapered wood legs. However, what makes this one different and covetable are the paneled upholstered arms. This detail emphasizes the sharp geometric shaping of this piece while also bringing in some soft, slight curves. I also think the choice of color is phenomenal. The cool yellow, bordering on gold, enhances the rich luxurious look of the piece. While some mid-century designs are beautiful, maintaining those geometric lines sometimes results in a thin, flat seating surface; but not the Jet Set, the slightly overstuffed bench cushion makes it clear that that is not the case here. This sofa looks highly inviting and as I said before...highly covetable.
