Chanel Surfing: an Olymipic Sport?

For the world's most accomplished athletes, the Olympics means a chance to represent their country and compete against their peers in the challenge of their lives.  For the rest of us, the Olympics probably means a couple of hours in front of the TV.  So, for those of us playing along at home, may I suggest an aesthetic experience rather than an athletic one?

Two examples of beautiful, modern television sets:

Cubeoglass

Above is a new update to the classic Cuboglass designed by Mario Bellini for Brionvega.  (One of the original Cuboglass sets is part of the MOMA's permanent collection).   When this newest version is switched off, its reflective form makes it into an enigmatic objet d'art.

1956deccadm4

Example 2.  For something a little more vintage, there is this 1960s Decca set that would look great as a centerpiece for any modern TV room.  For more gorgeous sets from the past, check out Television History, a site that explores the first 75 years of the medium.  And Happy Watching!
