With colors like Bavarian cream and sugar cookie one may mistake themselves for being in a bakery rather then the paint store. But when you get to the counter it is not as fulfilling as selecting a desert, it can actually be a little frustrating. So how do you pick the right white and have sweet success? Well, here are a few tips to get a yummy white every time.
The key to picking the right white is being familiar with the undertones. Warm whites have yellow, red and orange undertones while cold whites have blue, green and violet undertones. Picking warmer whites for your walls will keep your space from looking stark. However, a cooler white on the wall with warm furniture or accent pieces can be a great balance.
Using a few different shades of white creates interest and breaks up repetitiveness. For example you may choose to paint the ceiling and wood work a little darker or lighter then the wall color. Keeping the trim color the same throughout the house creates a flow from one room to the other. However, if you want to create separation, vary the hues. Something to keep in mind when picking out your pallet; Warm wall colors call for warm trim and ceiling color, while cool colors look best with bright whites. Again, being aware of the undertones. If you painted a the trim in a icy blue room cream it may appear marshmallow like and take away from the crisp color. A better choice would be a snowy white.
When decorating with a monochromatic color scheme, such as white, using texture and sheen will keep the space from looking flat and create excitement. Think textural pillows, lacquered pieces of furniture, plush rugs and sleek accessories. Natural elements are perfect for neutral spaces.

I am in need of a white shag rug like this. Most of them are a cream color…can you give me a good source to find these types of rugs?
